Musings
Quote from Muddyshoes on October 8, 2024, 8:37 pmMy neighbor recently invited me to attend a play at the local community theater. It was titled “Every Brilliant Thing”. It’s a few years old. I really enjoyed it.It was the story of a young boy whose mother had attempted suicide. The boy was so upset that he began to list all the good things in his life to convince her that life was worth living.Over the years he jotted down over one thousand instances of beauty and delight in this world.
Later in life, when grown, after his marriage fell apart, he resumed the habit with the help of his friends, acquaintances, and social media. The internet had been invented by then, and he received input from all over the world, eventually reaching one million suggestions.
Recently, after whiling away my days in a bit of a funk, reeling from the daily news, I thought I’d give it a try.I started a small journal—each day listing at least one good thing that brought me joy that day.I’m quite surprised how helpful this was in adjusting my attitude, and life seems just a little bit brighter now. Simple and easy. I highly recommend to anyone just trying to get through these times.

With all the years we have behind us, we're each in our own ways gold mines of reflections and wisdom - some sharp, some fuzzy, some passing whims.
